Divorce wasn’t something I thought I would ever have to endure. People don’t get married to divorce. Well, I know I didn’t. My parents were married for 26 years by the time I got married.
They are still married. My grandparents were married for over 60 years. I thought I would be too. Of all the blogs I have written over the last 12 years this is the hardest to write. I am sitting here in a coffee house with tears streaming down my face. But this show and this topic are so incredibly important to talk about. For ourselves and especially for our children.
I read this in the American Psychology Association and my heart broke;
Healthy marriages are good for couples’ mental and physical health. They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational and social problems. However, about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce.

That’s a lot of divorce and a lot of kids wondering if they did something wrong. Is it my fault? Why are things different? The inner turmoil, the fear, the not knowing what will happen. It’s so much for our children to bear. I knew it would be and it’s what made making the decision that much harder. Having served on the board of directors for Attachment Parenting International for over 5 years, made the decision that much harder. I KNOW how important it is for our children to feel safe and happy. So, I have decided to do what I have always done with my show…just be honest and reach out for the help I need and that I know other parents need.
I was so excited when fate or destiny or just dumb luck led me to my guest. I just recently moved me and the kids from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Austin , Texas. My New Land lady introduced me to her friend Carmella Whitehead. She was interested in starting a podcast and Jamie, my landlady, thought to get her in touch with me. The TIMING! What an amazing guest Carmella was. So much insight and generosity of spirit! I CAN NOT wait for her podcast to come out. If you are struggling with divorce or thinking about it I really hope this show and future ones on the topic with our friend Carmella help you find your way.
Much love dear listeners/readers, till next time, take care of yourselves and each other
“Divorce isn’t such a tragedy. A tragedy’s staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce.”
― Jennifer Weiner
